IB Interviews Are Done, But You Aren't

If you're done with your investment banking interviews, what you do now matters more than you think.

Most people treat interviews like they're the finish line. They're not - they're just a checkpoint along the journey.

Right now, some candidates are mentally checked out until their start date. Others are gonna pick up their flashcards and interview guides a week before starting. But a smaller group is doing something different: they're shifting from interview prep to career prep right now.

They're reading deal announcements and market commentary because they're genuinely curious, not because they're cramming for potential questions. They're revisiting the fundamentals they half-understood during interviews and solidifying them. They're starting to think like career professionals, not just candidates.

Here's what I tell students every year:
the gap between a good analyst and a great one is often built before the job starts. Your offer gets you in the door, but what you do between now and day 1 determines how quickly you grow once you're inside.

So if interviews are behind you - congrats! You've done great! But don't coast. Keep working and you'll find that this is the part that compounds.
