Interview Prep: Prepping A Case Study

Paramount, Netflix, and Warner Bros. Discovery are dominating headlines again today. If you're recruiting for investment banking right now, this is a great case study to use because it’s all very public!

One of the biggest mistakes I see every recruiting season is that candidates show up to interviews without a real case study to discuss that they actually understand. Today's news around these media companies is exactly the kind of situation you should be using to prepare. Another great recent case is the EA LBO - lots of info & analysis out there!

Why does it matter?
Because interviewers aren't testing whether you memorized headlines. They're testing whether you can think like a banker, and are interested in the markets.

Strong case study prep looks like this:
1️⃣ Pick something current and relevant
2️⃣ Know the strategic logic: Why would each party be interested? What problem are they trying to solve?
3️⃣ Know the numbers. Transaction value✅ Revenue✅ EBITDA✅ Financing details ✅
4️⃣ Understand the risks to closing the deal: Financing, regulatory, execution, and integration

Interview prep isn't about having the "right" answer. It's about showing you did the work.
